Sculpting the Iron Kingdoms: Borderlands and Beyond

As excited as I am about the new Iron Kingdoms RPG products we are making here at Privateer Press, I do feel a little left out when this happens. As a digital sculptor, I lack some of the creative writing skills that contributions to the RPG require, so I usually sit on the sidelines, cheering on my teammates. But wait…

I saw art in the IKRPG folder that was for sculpting!?

I dug a little deeper. Some scary eldritch-looking Retribution thing!

Well, I quickly shot an email to the Eldritch Sculpting Overseer Ron Kruzie and asked if that was for me (I also mentioned Retribution is kinda my jam), and he said it was so.

So, its off to work on this eldritch for me, which also prompted a quick email to Matt Goetz asking about what was going on with this creature… information I cannot share because it is obviously part of the upcoming adventure in our latest Kickstarter Borderlands and Beyond  ending very soon, but I did get to see that illustration that graces the cover of the upcoming adventure.

As a long-time adventurer in RPGs, I had always used miniatures in my games—in fact, it was how I originally became interested in minis all those decades ago. My mom would take me up to the local hobby stores to pick out all sorts of heroes and monsters for my games. (She would even help paint them—I have proof of sparkly gold-armored lizard men in a box I recently uncovered!)

As I began work on the eldritch, leisurely enjoying making a set of pointed ears and more Retribution-style armor, but then I was prompted by Ron: Don’t take forever! Didn’t you see I have more art for the IKRPG Kickstarter that need sculpting?

And so I joined in with more minis, and I’m finally able to contribute to the RPG. I am incredibly excited to be a part of this, and I really look forward to new adventures with the minis I’m working on now! So, I am sharing a few renders of RPG minis, and while these will likely still have a few changes, at least they’ll give you an idea of the direction we are headed with them and how I’m adding to the Iron Kingdoms RPG! Get in on the Kickstarter while there’s still time! The Borderlands and Beyond Kickstarter campaign only has one day to go and we’ve just announced two Community Stretch Goals. By sharing the project, we could add two more of these sculpts to the Backer rewards! So help spread the word!
