Wow, what a crazy couple of days it’s been! For the past four rounds, we here at PPHQ have been hearing the non-stop rumblings of the Ulgang—that was, until late last night, one lone Deimos-9 fan took a stand and placed the single vote that pushed Ulgoth out of the semifinals. With all of the squishy organics out of the way, it looks like the rise of the robots for the Destroyers as they move on to the semifinals with an epic showdown between Deimos-9 vs Cyber Khan—leaving kaiju fans with what is, without hyperbole, the most important question known to man: how many legs should a killer robot have?
Over on the Protectors’ side, it looks like we have a legitimate royal rumble between Terra Khan and King Kondo. In a mirror match of one of the most debated matchups in kaiju history, will the outcome match the main event on the 31st? Can we just save you $15 (and another $20 for a soda) by just having you vote for free? Is Ishiro Honda right about monkeys being smarter than lizards?
Before we get to the big showdown, let’s hear how our staffers’ picks are doing:
It’s the matchup we all knew was coming (as much as I had truly wanted some ape vs ape action). While my bracket will be going no further—since I had pinned my hopes and dreams on Hondo—this is a good consolation prize. As for the Destroyers: You know what makes ripping off a cyber-head easier? Thumbs. Kondo is obviously the Protector we need when Cyber Khan gets through Deimos’ stick legs to shove those thumbs into Cyber Khan’s cyber-eyes.

Well, there we go: my bracket is officially busted. Completely. 19 points. Now just to root for my favorite of the current fights! It amuses me greatly that the current Destroyer fight is a battle between two models sculpted by Nate Brooks. I’m very excited to see his models make it this far and that one of them will be in the next Megaton Mashup. On the Protectors’ side, I think we all knew it would happen, but I still can’t believe we ended with a Terra Khan vs King Kondo semifinals. This couldn’t be more exciting for Andy, I suspect!

So, both my Destroyers made it through. Really, I’ve just been limping along, getting just enough right to not be completely out. Heading into the last rounds, I’m voting for Cyber Khan and Terra Khan to make it into the box—it seems like a great combination. Mecha lizard vs giant lizard can’t really get more iconic than that!

18/37 is not so bad. I guessed the Protectors’ final match with the finale we all knew we wanted, King Kondo vs Terra Kahn! I’m rooting for my favorite big dino, and so should you! In the finals for the Destroyers, my favorite Cyber Kahn has made it to the end with just one more opponent ahead of him. We are so close to the Cyber Khan /Terra Kahn battle box of our dreams. We can do it. Go vote!
