King of the Monsterpocalypse: Round 4

Andy’s out of the office today, so I’ve got the rock. I don’t know what building it came from, but I’ve got it all the same.

Today marks the start of Round 4 and the start of the truly juicy matchups.

The people have spoken. They’ve rallied around their favorite monsters and absorbed those of us whose favorites were squashed in the earlier rounds. Competition has been fierce: meme missiles launched in salvos back and forth, gangs rising up and turning out the vote, and an outright attempt at vote fixing. All we’re missing is a frozen envelope.

First, let’s address the controversy:

For those of you that don’t follow our social media (solve that here), there was some not-so-clever vote manipulation going on in our first match-up that required us to perform a recount. After the second round of voting, the Ulgang and their twisting tentacles take it.  At this rate, we’ll be meat slaves to our Cthul overlords by the end of the bracket. The bulb will be facing off against Deimos-9, who took out Mecha-Maxim and stepped its spindly legs over the wreckage to get here. While I, personally, am hoping that the Martian will make it to the end, the Ulgang may prove too powerful to topple.

In the closest race of this bracket, Xaxor has blasted Globbicus to bits and will be moving on to face Cyber Khan after they tore apart my favorite mothership with its cyber-teeth. Incinerus’ flame was snuffed out by the Terrasaur king itself, Terra Khan, and the classic Protector, Defender X, defended his spot in the bracket from Nova ESR. Finally, we’ll be having a rumble between Armodax, who tanked through Pteradax’s screeches to have himself a wing buffet before facing off against the king: the one, the only, the biggest banana boy on the block, King Kondo, who was ultimately unimpressed by Zor-Maxim’s ninja skills.

While my bracket is shattered (the only one I still have standing is Armodax vs. Kondo, and one of those is about to knock the other out this week), the drama is keeping me glued to the polls.  The community has surprised me thus far, so let’s see where the rest of our staff are on their predictions:

Well, my bracket is broken, badly.

I have one possible match left to win for points, but I’m really far down the ladder and unlikely to climb very far. It was a good run, lil’ bracket. The only consolation out of all of this is that I can root for whichever monster is left!

I’m excited to see who wins it all, even though my bracket winning isn’t a remote possibility. It was really neat to see the community get behind their champions, and it is very cool for these brackets to mean something for a future release.

I’m so freaking excited! —Travis

So, I did not do well. I’m not completely out yet, since I still have Cyber Khan and Deimos-9, but I voted down Kondo and Terra Khan like a total dummy, so Protectors are officially shot.

I have Cyber Khan going all the way to the end, so I still have a chance at having one of the two finalists. Now, if it is Ulgoth and Xaxor at the end of the next voting period, I’ll be 100% out.

I’m not saying I’m rooting for the Ulgang to fail…but I am. —Faye

With 16 of 37, I am doing okay. My Destroyers’ bracket is completely sunk, but that’s probably for the best. I’m stoked to see who makes it to the top. I am mashing the vote button as hard as I can for Cyber Khan. Let us make our film dreams a reality!

My Protectors’ bracket fared much better.  I managed to guess 3 of the 4 semifinalists, so this gave my bracket a big boost.

Now to go root for my favorite monster of all time: Terra Khan! Let’s go Dino power! —Emanuel
