King of the Monsterpocalypse: Round 3

After a week of fierce voting, ferocious campaigning, and more than a few way-too-well-made memes, we finally have the results and are moving on to Round 3 of our King of the Monsterpocalypse bracket!

This round was especially brutal, as we saw the complete loss of the Draken Armada, the Zerkalo Bloc, the Tritons, the Savage Swarm, and the Green Fury. Further, the next round of votes will be extremely tough for our Protectors, as they have two different in-Agenda battles to resolve: Nova ESR vs Defender X, and Armodax vs Pteradax.

Nova and Defender are the last two G.U.A.R.D. monsters in the bracket, so this round will be especially heart wrenching for giant robot fans.

So, before we get into the new links, let’s hear from our staff how their brackets are holding up:

I wasn’t expecting my bracket to be broken so soon, but it nearly is. Getting only 4 of the 16 matchups correct has wrecked havoc on me. If Incinerus falls, my bracket has very little chance of rising from the bottom. This challenge has burnt my bracket up like so many war-torn areas of the Earth after the Monsterpocalypse.     —Travis

I went 8 for 16 this week, really not too bad. Still just above 50% for my predictions overall. That said, all of my winning predictions are grouped together, which means I cannot possibly do better than a 50/50 prediction this cycle. I also suspect my entire Protectors bracket will just be done soon, since I only went 2 for 8 on them. All in all I had a solid start, but I am about to crash and burn!     —Faye

I’ve never been happier to be wrong.  While most of my bracket is broken (most—I still have a few hopes of staunching some of the bleeding), the underdogs have surprised me with their ability to rally support.  The matchup particularly interesting to me in the incoming brackets is my saucer-love the Ares Mothership and her clacky claws against Cyber Khan and his classic silhouette.  She’s got a height and reach advantage, to be sure—being able to adjust your altitude at will has a way of doing that for you—but Khan’s simply a solid competitor all the way around.  I’m concerned for her.

That said, I wouldn’t be true to myself if I weren’t rooting for a big monkey to swing in and take it all.  With Kondo still in the running, I’m hoping the big banana boy can pull a win out for our fallen General.  Ideally, we’ll see a Kondo vs Mothership in the end.      —Curtis

8 of 37 so far. My bracket is not doing so well—it doesn’t help that I keep voting against it. I’ve realized I determined my bracket based on who I thought the people would vote for, but then I vote for who I want to see win this matchup. But winning the bracket does not mean much to me; instead, the monster we get in the end means everything to me. I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to find out who it’s going to be.     —Emanuel
