King of the Monsterpocalypse: Voting Continues

Round 1 of voting for the King of the Monsterpocalypse ended last night at 11:59 P.M.—and my prediction only got 2 out of 6 correct. You guys are going to make me lose our in-house pool!

In a stunning result, Zor-Maxim and Sky Sentinel ended in a tie. Because we’re working on a tight schedule here, we decided it was best to randomize the winner. Here’s the link to Travis Marg using his techno-wizardry to break the tie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZzVvG-fInE

The other big surprise this round was, of course, Ulgoth. Thanks to the dedication, sacrifice, and an almost unhealthy love of tentacles, the Ulgang successfully pushed their chosen candidate into the next round.

So, the following monsters have advanced to the next round of voting: Ulgoth, Globbicus, Cyber Khan, Leviathron, Armodax, and Zor-Maxim.

This round we have 16 matches to vote on, but before we start, let’s hear from our staff to see how they’re brackets are holding up!

Six matches down…and I won 3 of them. I believed the hype I saw for a number of monsters on the Internet, only to be let down in stunning fashion. I fell to the middle of the pack but still have a chance to bounce back, as only Ulgoth and General Hondo went farther in my bracket than round 2. I’ve lost Hondo, so it’s time to hopefully find a number of wins in the Sweet 16 matches going on now!

So, I went 4 for 6, not the worst, but I also had Gausamal going for quite a while. Her loss effectively guarantees my bracket is not going to do well. I can’t believe people don’t want more snakes in their lives! I also lost on Voyaka 099, but I have them losing to Xixorax next round so not nearly as bad a mess up. I have one guess that is already wrong going into this round, which really isn’t too bad. I’m looking forward to more impassioned pleas!

Right out of the gate the crowd chanted ULGANG, ULGANG, ULGANG! as they came for our loveable starter box kaiju. I got my vindication as Globbicus triumphantly clobbers Rogzor in bracket 2. My prediction picks up steam as Cyber Kahn destroys Voyaka 099 in bracket 3. If I could hop in a time machine and go back to when I took this poll, I’d champion Cyber Kahn to the bitter end. Bracket 4 Triton fans poured in a massive tsunami of votes. In bracket 5 the Armodax fans mobilized for Dax—a hefty win for a hefty kaiju. In what turned out to be the closest matches of this round, I voted against my own bracket. It’s my fault they tied. One of my favorite monsters advances, and my bracket takes its second loss. With that, my prediction bracket survives….barely. Blasted Cult of Ulgoth! Blasted tie vote! With 4 out of 6 right so far, I am excited to see what round two brings next!

Well, I’m disappointed. Not surprised but disappointed. While I predicted all but one bracket correctly, it was the one bracket I really wanted to pull through. RIP the hopes of a Generalisimo Hondo.
