I come today bearing the gifts of dynamic update spoilers with a focus on the Protector Agenda. If you haven’t seen the announcement Insider for the first-ever Monsterpocalpyse dynamic update, I suggest hitting this link and checking it out!
Sixteen models are getting changes in the upcoming dynamic update. Only five of them are Protector models; however, all of those are monsters. If you read the announcement Insider, you are already aware that Krakenoctus is one of them. Of the four remaining monsters, I’m planning to show you three today. (We must have some surprises for later, right?)
Let’s get right down to business with my very favorite 50-foot tall woman.
Defensive Stance is quite the mathy ability. But before anyone starts dusting off their high-school algebra books, I’ll give you a quick rundown on how this works. If Titanica has an Action Die available, her defense is statistically between 9 and 11. That number depends on which type of dice you ultimately end up choosing to reroll. If she is lucky enough to see two Super Strikes on Action Dice, it will make her defense, statistically speaking, closer to 11 than 9. On the other hand, rerolling two Power Dice tends to produce worse results for Titanica. Thus, if you encounter a wild Titanica, be sure to pay attention when choosing how many dice to roll.
Some of you may be wondering how opposing rerolls will work. It goes like this: the attacking player will get a chance to reroll, then the defending player follows suit. If both players choose not to reroll, they will both be locked out of rerolling for the rest of the attack. If either player chooses to reroll, both players will get another chance to make available rerolls. (Rerolling and how it works will be added to the errata/FAQ document, which will be updated on the day the new Monsterpocalpyse starter sets are released.)
The other change is Reposition. This became an extremely powerful defensive ability. Instead of requiring that Titanica be hit by an attack, it now only requires that she be targeted. So, hit or miss, she gets to move not one but three spaces. This can aggravate an opponent trying to set up multiple attacks. And remember that though she doesn’t have Reposition in hyper, it still triggers from any attack that targets her while she’s in alpha. Once it’s triggered, she will get to use the ability even if she ends up in hyper afterward.
Speaking of Reposition, I seem to remember a certain Zor with that ability.
In alpha, the only change is with Reposition. Yet unlike Titanica, he has it in both forms, making it a headache to pin Zor-Raiden down. Switching over to his hyper, you’ll see that this monster does one thing quite well: movement. You attack him, he moves; he attacks you, he moves. Follow Through on his blast in hyper lets him move ten spaces before making a Weapon Master brawl attack. After his notably accurate punch, he waltzes away another three spaces. A decidedly speedy monster.
And finally, from atop a snowy mountain comes one heck of an ape.
White Dajan received two changes, one to its alpha form and the other to its hyper form. In alpha, he picked up Suplex. He already has a pretty great alpha; between Demolisher and Steady he is solid monster. So, Suplex gives him a bit more variation in his toolkit while playing into his secondary body slam theme.
In hyper form, he gains a brand new ability, Sweeping Attack. After he performs his Demolishing Beat Back brawl attack, he can advance and make a swat. Since you can’t do it before the brawl attack, he won’t be able to clear units in the way of the target monster, but he might be able to clear the way for another of your other monsters. If you are desperate for Power Dice, you can brawl a monster, advance three spaces, and swat a unit into a building, netting you at least four Power Dice. One more thing to note is that Sweeping Attack does not use the word “immediately.” This means that once you make your brawl attack, you can do the swat or advance in any order or even step around in between the two.
Well, that’s all for the Protectors…for now. Be sure to check back in this space for more info about the new Monsterpocalpyse starter sets coming soon.
