Brawlmachine Overview

Brawlmachine.

Maybe you’ve heard this term within the WARMACHINE community lately, maybe not. So, today, I want to take a moment to tell you all about it: what it is and why it’s so great.

Brawlmachine is a special format for WARMACHINE that was created via of the passion of the community, specifically the fine fellows from the Line of Sight website. Their goal was simple: create a format that made it easy to introduce a new player to the game of WARMACHINE, promote smaller-scale games to expedite quick model collection as well as game time, and retain the core feel of playing WARMACHINE games at a larger scale.

I have to say, they knocked it out of the park.

Brawlmachine isn’t an official Organized Play format—which is to say, one that was designed by us here at Privateer Press—so you’ll need to go to the Line of Sight website to find the rules. Check them out here: https://www.loswarmachine.com/brawlmachine

It’s fantastic to see Brawlmachine gaining popularity. In fact, some of the greatest events and formats in WARMACHINE have come from the heart of the community, including global events such as Foodmachine or Breast Cancer Brawl or the huge spectacle shows like the World Team Championship and Warfaire Weekend.

Brawlmachine is, at its core, playing WARMACHINE with a set of special Steamroller-style scenarios made for smaller-sized games. The format is played at 25 points, meaning you can easily play an entire game in an hour or less. Additionally, the Line of Sight crew added a few restrictions to ensure this smaller scale remained on an even playing field for everyone.

For starters, ever model/unit becomes Field Allowance: 1, meaning there are no duplicates in your army, aside from taking up to three weapon attachments on a single unit. Additionally, there is a living list of models not allowed in Brawlmachine known as the Epic list. The models on this list can be a bit strong for 25 points, especially for a new player to learn to play with or to play against, so they simply aren’t allowed in Brawlmachine.

That said, new players should feel free to ignore the Epic List if it dissuades them from trying the format. If a brand new player just got into the game, and only owned Butcher 3, they should feel free to try him out in Brawlmachine until they expand their collection and could eventually adapt to playing with the Epic List.

If you’re looking to get a friend or family member into playing WARMACHINE with you, or perhaps you’re looking for a new reason to collect a small army of models—or maybe you just want to be able to play a game on your lunch break—I highly recommend you check out Brawlmachine.

Thanks to the Line of Sight team and to our entire community at large. Your enthusiasm for the game never ceases to amaze us. Now then, time to figure out how well my “Maximum Croak” Brawlmachine list fares against some Man-O-War. Hop along, boys—let’s go kill some Khadorans.
