Concept to Crate – Akivasha

During the time that we’re stuck at home dealing with a global pandemic, social media is definitely one of the major ways of passing the time! With that in mind, I have a bite-sized Insider discussing the development of Akivasha for the Savage MiniCrate line!

One of the tricky parts about several of the Howard characters is their lack of… accoutrements. For Akivasha, we had to tone down her original appearance, but design-wise, we were able to advance to a final very quickly.

The one things we needed to work out for production purposes was a pose. The long claw hands were going to create problems, so there was a good deal of discussion about what we could do with those hands. I pitched the following poses:

Those weren’t working, so Matt pitched something a little sultrier:

With my response:

Neither of those poses were doing the job, so we discussed putting a prop in her hand(s). Some of the ideas were to give her a cape, a scepter, or a snake. Based upon the nature of the character, any of those could’ve worked, but I pitched the more radical idea of having her holding a human heart.

Pose B was the winner, and we were off to the races! Below is the final concept read for sculpting!

I hope you’ve all enjoyed reading a bit about the process for creating the Akivasha concept! As you can see, even when the design is solidified rapidly, there’s still extra attention taken into account for production and the final presentation of the figure.

So until next time, stay safe, stay at home, and paint some minis!
