Trolls Gotta Troll

For those of you not hip to what’s going on here at PPHQ, I’ve had a bit of an existential crisis after getting slaughtered by pretty much everyone I’ve played against here, and figured it’s time to change things up. You can read all about it in my previous Insider found here: [LINK!]

And now the results are in!

And you guys really did it. You just had to troll me, didn’t ya?

I’m assuming you all went for the pun. I know I would’ve.

The good news is that Trollbloods can be played similarly to my steamy-dreamy-big-bois, but we wouldn’t want to confine me to a similar list, right? Afterall, this is all about getting out of my gaming rut, and trying something new, fresh, and, evidently, drunk.

Luckily for me, I happen to be pals with one of the best Troll players in the office, our dynamo designer Faye Reppas! That’s right folks, I had to pull out the big guns for these lists. And by “pulling out the big guns” I mean “crying about not being allowed to play with my steam-and-steel-covered-studs so loudly that Faye felt obligated to help.”

I have 3 Faye-Approved™ lists that I’m going to be presenting to you folks. I’ll give a brief spiel about each of them, then once again, it’s up to you folks to choose which of them I go out into the wild with!

First up, is a little list I’m calling Pew Pew Pew (and in Parentheses “Until the Break of Dawn”)

[Theme] Kriel Company

[Grim 2] Hunters Grim [+25]

Dire Troll Blitzer [15]

Slag Troll [10]

Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)]

Pyg Burrowers (max) [11]

Scattergunners (max) [14]

Faye once confided in me that Trolls have the possibility of being one of the best shooting armies in the game, so of course I wanted to try something ridiculous. If Grim casts Mortality on a model, then pops his feat, and that Blitzer shoots at the target within 5” it’s effectively at RAT 11! Right now the main drawback of this list is that there isn’t much melee support – but, if I’m using it optimally (which I almost definitely won’t be) that shouldn’t be an issue.

This next list is called I’m Gonna Get A Beer While You Take Your Turn

[Theme] Storm of the North

[Borka 1] Borka Kegslayer [+28]

– Rök [19]

– Slag Troll [10]

Swamp Gobber Chef [1]

Valka Curseborn, Chieftain of the North [0(6)]

Kriel Warriors (max) [11]

– Kriel Warrior Standard & Piper [3]

Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (min) [6]

– Northkin Elder [3]

This list is about two things: getting in your way, and being really, really annoying. With tons of ways of knocking you down, getting the caster and the heavy stumbling drunk, it’s all keeping the opponent from doing whatever it is that they want to do – be it an assassination, holding an objective, or fleeing the table, if you get caught in the mosh pit of Kriel Warriors, you’re gonna get stuck. The big drawback for this list is that it desperately wants more buds to drink brewskis with – because we’re starting at a small point value, I can’t do fun things like add in some ranged units, or another light warbeast, in the coming weeks though – this list provides an excellent start to a killer infantry heavy Northkin list.

Finally we come to this, which I lovingly call I Don’t Need No Instructions to Know How to Rock

[Theme] Power of Dhunia

[Doomshaper 2] Hoarluk Doomshaper, Rage of Dhunia [+27]

– Dire Troll Mauler [15]

– Mulg the Ancient [22]

– Troll Axer [10]

– Trollkin Runebearer [5]

Dhunian Knot [0(6)]

This list is easily the most straightforward one on here. You have Warbeasts, and things to buff Warbeasts. Use them. The obvious downside to this list is that there are no troops to help with holding objectives or create tarpits for the opposing player to get trapped in – but it’s kinda worth it to field a ton of Warbeasts, and turning them all into truly monstrous, uh, monsters.

So there you have it! Here’s the link to this week’s poll, which will close at 10 A.M. Pacific on Monday the 13th:

Go ahead and vote on what you’d like to see me playing out in the wild, and I’ll be back with the results!

Happy Gaming!
