Last time I talked to you about my Iron Kingdoms Full Metal Fantasy Roleplaying Game character, an Arcanist/Sorcerer who I’ve conceived as a Vassal of Menoth travelling as part of an Arcane Order adventuring party. Using the Arcane Order benefits as a starting point, my Game Master set out to create a viable reason for a Vassal to be wandering around Immoren with minimal supervision. So he came up with the concept of vassal monasteries. Gatherings of pious and repentant Menites in recently converted regions under the supervision of a local scrutator, these monasteries extend the reach of the hierarch far outside the Protectorate’s proper borders. Using this as a starting place, my friends began fleshing out the other members of the Penitents of Mardun Abbey.
We needed a leader (or to put it in less Menite-friendly terms, a warden), so my friend Charles created Scrutator Tomas Al-Meda, a Priest/Spy of Idrian stock. Not unkind, as scrutators go, Tomas is still a tough master. In charge of keeping us in line and spying on of the local Llaelese nobles, Tomas is a man trying to keep everything together with limited success.
Michelle wanted to get her hands dirty and covered in oil. The daughter of Llaelese nobles, Marie Rebekah Enos is an Arcane Mechanik/Field Mechanik who has devoted herself to the sanctification of the abbey’s mechanika in the name of the Lawgiver. These responsibilities include being on guard with her trusty steamjack Resolve just in case one of the abbey’s inhabitants loses control.
To give the party a little variety our last adventurer, Krupal, decided he wanted to play a more robust character. A Skilled Knight/Duelist and brother to Michelle’s character, Jean-Paul Enos is an Exemplar Errant of particular skill and cunning. Dedicated in his service to Tomas he does not brook insubordination or blasphemy. Although slightly arrogant and perhaps a bit overconfident, his skills have never failed him.
This all leads back to my character. Guillaume de Colvert was a servant in the home of the Enos family prior to the Khadoran occupation. Raised as strict members of the Old Faith, the Enos did not mingle with the more debauched segments of Llael’s “nobility.” Discovering their arcane abilities together at the onset of adolescence, Marie and Guillaume decided it was for the best to commit themselves to the hands of the temple for judgment. The strength of their faith has sustained them and made them better servants of the Lawgiver.
With a robust set of characters whose lives are intermingled in a portion of the Iron Kingdoms filled with intrigue and excitement, I cannot wait to spend some time living with Guillaume. I’ll be back in future Insiders with more about this party of pious adventurers and their exploits as they try and push back the darkness in the north.
