We teased not long ago that we had big news coming for Monsterpocalypse, and the time has come for an earth-shaking announcement: Privateer Press is teaming up with Mythic Games to produce a big-box board game version of Monsterpocalypse!
If you’ve even glanced at any board game projects on Kickstarter in the past few years, you know Mythic. They’re the creators of the most gorgeous, daring, miniatures-packed board games around, titles like Darkest Dungeon, Time of Legends: Joan of Arc, Reich Busters, 6: Siege, and many more. They also happen to be great friends of Privateer, and we’ve been looking for an opportunity to join forces and do something BIG for a while. So, when the chance to create a new range of Monsterpocalypse products with Mythic came up, it was like tasting chocolate and peanut butter together for the first time—a dream come true.
The new Monsterpocalypse products will arrive on Kickstarter later this fall. There will be a two-player core box as well as several expansions. If you’re a long-time Monsterpocalypse player with an extensive collection, the core box may not offer much you don’t already have, but part of the Kickstarter will be a new multiplayer expansion with an oversized, double-sided board game-style map that enables three- and four-player co-op and competitive games, as well as five new Apex monsters: Defender Extreme, Arctic Armodax, Mega-Gorghadra, the Insatiable Yasheth, and Nightmare Gallamaxus. It also includes two full sets of dice and tokens to facilitate the multiplayer games, but otherwise, everything is new and tailored for existing players as well as newcomers to the world of monsters and metropolitan mayhem!
This new board game expression of Monsterpocalypse is 100% compatible with the game you already know—we didn’t change a single rule. Everything that will be offered through the Kickstarter works with what already exists, and everything that already exists works with everything being offered in the new product range! The only thing that has really changed are the materials, as the new board game version of Monsterpocalypse will come with preassembled plastic miniatures, as is modern board game fashion.
Does this mean Privateer won’t be producing Monsterpocalypse anymore? A thunderous, earthshaking NO to that! We have a full slate of monthly releases planned into 2023, including two new Factions next year. Monsterpocalypse will continue to charge forward while offering a new way to get into the game or to expand your collection through the Mythic Kickstarter later this year.
We couldn’t be more excited to be working with our favorite board game publisher to produce a board game version of Monsterpocalypse.
