Riot Quest: Wintertime Wasteland Road Map

As fall turns to winter, it’s time we ask ourselves an important question about life. Something I think we all ponder as we try to sleep at night.

When exactly is the second half of Riot Quest Wintertime Wasteland going to come out, and what will be in it?

Well, today I want to give you a brief roadmap of what’s to come for Riot Quest after the first half ships out. The second half of the season will be arriving in 2021, giving you more options not just for the Heroes in your Crew but also offering you entirely new ways to play the game!

Let’s start with those Heroes. There are going to be eight more new Heroes rounding out this season. The first Kickstarter frontloaded the season in regards to Heroes, giving us sixteen of the total 24 Heroes for Wintertime Wasteland, while the back half is more focused on expansions and new ways to play.

Of these eight new Heroes, here are some fun stats for you to consider:

  • 2 Heroes are tag-team models
  • 1 Hero is also a Boss model (more on that in a moment)
  • 1 Hero is a princess
  • 3 Heroes are gobbers or at least contain a gobber as part of the miniature
  • 1 Hero is a Mekano
  • 1 Hero has wings
  • 1 Hero has entirely too many guns (seriously, it’s just…too many guns)
  • 0 Heroes are bears

We’ll be previewing art for many of these Heroes in the near future via our social media, so be sure to join the Riot Quest General Facebook group if you haven’t already, where you will see loads of this content when it first gets released.

Beyond the Hero offerings, there is some really fantastic expansion content in the second half of Wintertime Wasteland. As I mentioned earlier, there’s going to be a new Boss Fight box set! The model within will be playable as a standard Hero in your Crew…or as a superpowered villain to fight against in the co-op Boss Mode. If you’ve already faced off against Malvin & Mayhem, then get ready: this Boss ups the ante in a big, BIG way.

We will also be releasing a new Bounty expansion, which will include physical models to represent your Bounty tokens on the table, as well as a new Bounty deck! With the Bounty expansion, the Treasure Chest expansion, and the Spawn Gate expansion, you can have just about every map token represented by a beautiful miniature to make your maps really pop.

Speaking of maps, there is going to be a new neoprene map available in the second half as well: The Mekanofactory! Something wicked and weird is happening in the wastes of the frozen north, and your Crew will get a chance to loot it all dry—if you can manage all the switches, conveyor belts, and your opponents at one time, that is.

Finally, we will also be introducing an entirely new game mode to Riot Quest with the Heist expansion. Heist Mode sees players battle in a capture-the-flag style game using any map, any Heroes, and any Treasure deck they like. The Bounty deck is replaced by a deck of cards representing the Arena’s security measures and the actions of its security Bots! The Bots are represented by models on the map that hunt down and destroy Heroes on all teams as you attack each other, trying to gather special loot you must bring back to your “home base” spawn gate and leave there for extraction. Of course, while it’s sitting there, your opponent can run up and try to steal it from you!

Unlike original games of Riot Quest, which last until one player has scored 7 VPs, in this case, no VPs, Bounty cards, or Scrap are scored at all in Heist. Instead, when the game timer runs out, the player who has the most special loot on their base wins the game. We’ll be previewing more specific details about Heist in the near future!

And of course, there will be loads more Riot Gear coming with many of these expansions to allow you to continue customizing your Crew. Keep an eye out here, on Facebook, and on Twitter—we have a ton more to show you, and it won’t be that long until you start getting your first look at some of the upcoming models for Riot Quest!
