Warcaster Official Tournament Format: Pendulum

Good news! Today, I’m here to talk about tournaments for Warcaster: Neo-Mechanika.

Pendulum is the official tournament system for Warcaster: Neo-Mechanika, and it will offer a one-size-fits-all tournament style of play. Pendulum is an escalation tournament, which will include three different levels of escalation to take you from skirmish missions to primary ones. To get started, players will play their first games with a traditional skirmish force list before graduating to a slightly expanded scale. The tournament will culminate with a primary mission and a full 15 units and three hero solos force list.

In Pendulum tournaments, players will get a chance before each game to make minor adjustments to their force lists. When you create your force list, you are choosing your special-issue models and Cyphers. You can also selecting one of each unit type and Cypher type to add to your special-issue models.

In addition to their force lists, each player also has special-issue options. Special-issue options include one of each Cypher card option and one of each model unit types. Before each game, you can swap in any of your special-issue units for any other unit in your force. So, your special-issue units will include up to one squad, one solo, one vehicle, and  warjack (with all warjacks customization options chosen in advance). Then, depending on the mission you are about to play or your opponent’s force list, you might take a squad out of your force list to add in a vehicle.

You will also have special-issue Cyphers, one of each type: Harmonic, Geometric, Fury, and Overdrive. When you replace Cypher cards, your new rack must still be fully legal—that is, it contains at least three of each type of Cypher. Note that all special-issue swaps must be made on a one-for-one basis. So, if you want to add a Cypher to your rack, you have to remove one too and vice versa. The same applies to swapping unit models.

That brings us to the tournament support kit itself. Keeping with the tradition set by Riot Quest Throwdown and Monsterpocalpyse Crush Hour, we will be offering a model exclusive to the Pendulum prize kit. Since there are already a lot of alternate sculpts for models making their way through Kickstarter exclusives, we decided to offer objectives with the tournament support kit!

The first of these will be the Empyrean cache. What’s inside? Is it a wealth of technology? What else could it be? You’ll just have to open it up to find out. Here’s hoping those nearferious Empyrean didn’t boobytrap it, amiright?

“Oh, hey.”

We also wanted to make the process of customizing and playing your warjacks more streamlined. To that end, we’ve created large cards that put together every light warjack option for a specific chassis together. On the front side, you have the base rules for the chassis and three spots to put your currently chosen weapons. Then, on the backside are the rules for all of the available weapon options. So, once you’ve customized your warjack and are ready for battle, you’ll never have to flip a card to check rules; they’ll all be right there at your fingertips.

A store that orders a Pendulum tournament kit will receive six warjack overview cards (two Firebrands, two Dusk Wolfs, and two Scourges) and one Empyrean Cache objective model. As with our other recent Organized Play options, we’ll have at-home kits as well, which will be available directly from our online store to anyone. Those kits will include three warjack customization options (one of each) as well as one Empyrean Cache. We want everyone to stay safe while enjoying Warcaster: Neo-Mechanika, so whether you are playing in the backyard with three of your favorite Warcasters or are playing in a major tournament, we have support for you!

Looking for something different from an escalation tournament? Not a problem—Pendulum is easily converted to play only skirmish, modified skirmish, or primary missions!

You can look forward to more Organized Play support for Warcaster: Neo-Mechanika coming soon!
