Theme Forces Revisited – Scourge of the Broken Coast

Since the release of the new editions of WARMACHINE & HORDES, I’ve mostly kept my head down in the mud. Played the straight and narrow by signing up with Trenchers, maybe playing a little Heavy Metal when the situation called for it.

But this is no preview for Cygnar.

The time has finally come, now that Oblivion looms on the horizon, and with it come a few changes.  It is time to sail home to the Broken Coast. It is time to return to Cryx.

Pirate Queen Skarre recruited me not only into the Nightmare Empire but into WARMACHINE itself all the way back in Mk I. Back then, the navy was small—only Satyxis Raiders and Black Ogrun saw land raids in the many battles across Immoren.

Since then a lot has changed; many more models have been released, from Gerlak Slaughterborn and his blighted Trollkin to the Scharde islanders and their dirge seers. The navy was divided—the Satyxis were in the Scourge of the Broken Coast in one theme, and the rest of the living pirates found a home in the Slaughter Fleet. Yet neither lived up to exactly what I wanted from the list.

Now no longer split, the long feuds forgotten, I give you the new Scourge of the Broken Coast.

I didn’t have a regular Cryx list to compare it to, and there were a lot of different ways I could have started building, but I’ve never been one who likes to play big blocks of troops marching up the board. Because of that, Skarre 3 never really worked with my play style before. Now, with Requisition points, I have more options and can aim for a more combined arms approach while returning to the ’caster that got me into the game in the first place.

My ranged ’jacks get a lot of mileage from Guided Fire but won’t be afraid to get into melee, thanks to Gang Fighter. With Dirge Seers as a free option, I can make sure stealth and cloud walls won’t give me any issues. Meanwhile, ambushing Blood Witches help corral my opponent’s force to the center where the General Slaughterborn and his troops can mop them up.

I’ve already seen some success with this list.
