It’s hard to believe that WARMACHINE High Command has been out for a couple of months already. It feels like just a week or two ago that I was walking through the gaming halls of Gen Con 2013 and watching players eagerly tear into their boxes of WARMACHINE High Command and HORDES High Command for the first time. While the former came out just shortly thereafter, most of you have been waiting patiently for the latter’s public release date.
Well, that day is here at last! HORDES High Command should be on the store shelves of your friendly local game store as of today, and prize kits have shipped out to many of those stores for HORDES High Command release events. As with the previous release event, these new events have a promotional card for each of the factions in the game.

Note that you don’t need to win the overall event to get your hands on one or more of these shiny new promotional cards; you merely have to participate. Release events are all about exploring the new set and getting in some fun games of High Command with fellow gamers. Also note that this is not necessarily the only time these particular promotional cards will be available, but it’s certainly the first time you can get your hands on these bonus warlocks.
It’s easy to see how these warlocks will have a big impact on the game itself. Dominar Rasheth and Rhyas, Sigil of Everblight bring a lot of raw power to the table, Grayle the Farstrider ups the ante on the Circle Orboros movement shenanigans, and Calandra Truthsayer, Kriel Oracle allows a Trollbloods player to set up a huge stompy turn better than ever.
But beyond their raw abilities, these cards also bring new options in terms of detachment choices. They provide new warlock options for their given colors, and Calandra Truthsayer even allows Trollbloods to use a new color combination. With the Kriel Oracle, you can use the Trollbloods’ yellow, green, and purple detachments in the same reinforcement deck for the very first time.
Coinciding with the release of HORDES High Command, we’ve updated the High Command Frequently Asked Questions document. A number of specific card abilities from HORDES High Command have been clarified, and we’ve also tried to clear up some of the questions that have come up in the forums or that active High Command gaming groups have brought to our attention.
In a couple of weeks, Will and I will be sharing our thoughts on the HORDES factions in High Command. Stay tuned!
