Gen Con 2013 is rapidly approaching, and it brings with it the prerelease of Kings, Nations, and Gods, the long-awaited second volume of Iron Kingdoms Full Metal Fantasy Roleplaying Game.

Production on the book was just wrapping up when I started working here at Privateer Press, and the amount of time and effort that went into it was staggering. At one point, the floor of Doug Seacat and Darla Kennerud’s office was piled high with proofreading copies of each of the book’s five chapters. We all worked extremely hard to ensure the book would be loaded with an incredible amount of detail, examining the nations of the Iron Kingdoms with an unprecedented level of scrutiny. Each chapter focuses on a single nation, delving into its history, culture, government, and much more.

Over the next few weeks we will be rolling out previews of this hefty volume (the book weighs over three pounds, and on a critical hit a living target has a chance to be knocked out by it). Each week we’ll offer a sneak peek of one of the cool sections Kings, Nations, and Gods has in store. This week I wanted to show you my personal favorite part of the book.

Each chapter opens with an introduction and detailed history of one of the Iron Kingdoms, explaining how it fared through the centuries and developed into its modern incarnation. These sections are a great resource for players and Game Masters alike, offering insight into the forces—both internal and external—that helped shape the Iron Kingdoms. As an added bonus—and to whet your appetite for everything Kings, Nations, and Gods has to offer—check out the Table of Contents.

Come back next week for a look at some of the new options for players in Iron Kingdoms Full Metal Fantasy Roleplaying: Kings, Nations, and Gods!
