This year’s Lock & Load GameFest is going to be even better than ever. I can’t wait! Last year I had a blast competing against some of the community’s top speed painters. With a limited palette chosen by Ron Kruzie, I had no idea what colors to expect.
When I stepped up to my spot at the table, I was greeted by the mounted Vladimir Tzepesci, Great Prince of Umbrey. “Oh man!” I thought, “I have to paint him in forty minutes?” Little did I know what else Ron and Will Shick had in store. Will called out all sorts of bizarre instructions, such as, “paint while standing on one leg” or “stick the end of the paint brush in your mouth and paint without using hands” or “you can only use purple for the next thirty seconds.” It was really tough work, but I loved it! I had so much fun; especially when Will told everyone to use his or her left hand. He didn’t realize I’m left-handed!
To go through everything that happened last year would take up far too much space for this little ol’ blog. So instead I’ll share a picture of my most prized mini—Vlad!

So how can we possibly make this year even better, you ask? Well, the team here at Privateer Press has devised an even more entertaining spectacle for Lock & Load GameFest 2013. We are combining the Trivia Challenge and Iron Painter!
We will have a studio representative painting against the top three speed painters at Lock & Load. Three audience members will be chosen at random, and each one will be paired up with a Painter Champion. Champions will try to win the Iron Painter Grand Prize for their audience members by winning the Iron Painter Showdown. Those three audience members will have one exemption to use, which will give their champions a pass on any one challenge.
But wait, there’s more! Audience members will be asked trivia questions about the history of Privateer Press and its games during the Iron Painter painting contest. After correctly answering a trivia question, the audience member will pick the next painting challenge out of the Treasure Box of Reward and Woe—be sure to bone up on your Privateer Press knowledge before sitting in! You could be one of our random audience participants with the chance to win awesome prizes!
What about the fans who aren’t to coming to Lock & Load this year? Never fear! We have you covered. We’ll be streaming live video coverage of the Iron Painter Showdown on Friday, May 31st at 9:30 p.m. PST.
The Iron Painter Showdown will be preceded by live streaming coverage of War Stories: The Origin of WARMACHINE at 8:00 p.m. PST, and the Lock & Load GameFest 2013 Staff Panel at 9:00 p.m. PST, so tune in to watch all the fun!
