The day I started as an employee of Privateer Press, studio manager Ron Kruzie, my boss, not so subtly hinted that he wanted me to do a custom mod of Molik Karn. He wanted a version of Molik Karn with the helmet, like he’s got in the illustration in Forces of HORDES: Skorne. After four years, Ron finally wore me down. Plus, my review is coming up.
To start, I cut away Molik Karn’s ponytail and hair, chopping away anything that might get in the way of the helmet detail.

Next, I added the helmet plating. I cut three small triangles out of epoxy and applied them in layers with the pointy tip centered at the back, smoothing them out. I then added the eye gem.

At this point, I realized the round helmet bolts located on each side of Molik Karn’s mouth needed to go, so I remove them and continued. I added the helmet visor as a small sausage of putty, blending it on top and flattening it with my sculpting knife. I trimmed up the underside and cleaned it once the putty had hardened. I then added the helmet gem and trim, as well as the new round bolts on the side of the mouth and the new ponytail.

Finally, I added the half circle bracer details on the sides of the helmet, using a needle tool to create a stippled detail effect.

Voilà! Molik Karn with a helmet.
