Khador is my second WARMACHINE faction; I began collecting them back in 2004, shortly after I started playing the game. I even won a tournament with them in Baton Rouge, Louisiana run by Privateer’s own Lyle Lowery. This was long before either of us were Privateer Press employees. Unfortunately, in all that time I haven’t painted many Khador models. So when I started painting the 2012 Khador holiday bundle I had a grand total of two warcasters, four warjacks, and Yuri the Axe painted. Not too impressive.
When I saw the holiday bundle had two units I didn’t have painted (I had zero) plus Vladimir Tzepesci, the Dark Prince and a War Dog, I was sold. Sure, I already have a Destroyer and a Juggernaut, but I am a big fan of the new plastic models, so I was happy to add them to my existing force.
My paint scheme involves a whitewash coating over a camouflage orange base, similar to how many historical modelers paint their German tanks. The orange is really more of a beige base coat with a wash applied to grime it up. So after a speedy beige base coat I was able to put down my base metal colors quickly, give the whole thing a wash with Formula P3 Armor Wash, brush them roughly with Morrow White, and pick out the details. For the final touch, I finished each model with a punch of red on the armor or uniform—just like my original scheme from eight years ago.

Now I’m building more Khador models and prepping them for paint. As excited as I am to get a Conquest, I think my next models will be Vladimir Tzepesci, Great Prince of Umbrey and a whole lot of cavalry models. Should be fun!
Have a safe and happy holiday, and remember to give and receive your season’s beatings with a smile.
