The No Quarter Assistant reports directly to the No Quarter editor-in-chief (EIC) and will assist the EIC with each issue of No Quarter through its entire life cycle, from concept to deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic copyediting and proofing: The No Quarter Assistant will assist with basic copyediting and proofing of articles, ads, and marketing materials.
  • Generate content: The No Quarter Assistant will generate content for non-canonical articles, such as News from the Front, Modeling & Painting Challenge, and the Player Gallery. There may be opportunities for additional writing depending on skill level and experience.
  • Traffic management: The No Quarter Assistant will be responsible for tracking the progress of No Quarter articles and features from setup to final draft and provide updates to the EIC.
  • Maintain subscriber databases: The No Quarter Assistant will be responsible for inputting and maintaining data for No Quarter subscriptions in the subscription database. The assistant will also be responsible for coordinating with Privateer Press customer service to ensure subscription promotional items are sent out to customers in a timely manner.

Required Skills and Proficiencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in English or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to pass a Privateer Press editing test
  • Familiarity with editorial style guide usage, preferably Chicago Manual of Style
  • Hobby game experience/knowledge
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Upbeat and positive attitude
  • Able and willing to travel to conventions, industry trade shows, open houses, etc. in and outside the U.S.

Preferred Skills and Proficiencies

  • Familiarity with WARMACHINE, HORDES, and the Iron Kingdoms
  • Writing ability, particularly the ability to translate technical text into reader-friendly text
  • Working knowledge of wikis, databases, MS Excel, Adobe InDesign, and Photoshop
  • Basic knowledge of photography

  3. Prepare a writing sample of no more than 500 words. The writing sample cannot contain intellectual property owned by Privateer Press (WARMACHINE, HORDES, Iron Kingdoms, etc.). The sample can come from up to two projects. The filename of the writing sample should be your first and last name followed by “Writing Sample,” all separated by underscores. The file must be in .doc or .PDF format. Example: John_Doe_Writing_Sample.doc
  4. Send your resume, cover letter, and writing sample to jobs@privateerpress.com, and make sure the subject line says “No Quarter Assistant – [your name]”. Example: No Quarter Assistant – John Doe.
