While it may be a little early to bid a fond farewell to 2012, I must admit that 2013 can’t come fast enough for one very special reason.
By now, most of you reading this have spied the back cover of No Quarter #45, which begins a pretty momentous occasion. For those who haven’t had the pleasure of checking out the latest issue, we’ll be celebrating the ten-year anniversary of WARMACHINE throughout 2013.
It’s hard to believe that ten years have passed. To sum up, in the last ten years WARMACHINE has had two editions with sixteen books containing around 400 models. We’ve seen the rise of two major continent-wide wars, the fall of Llael, the death of two Lich Lords, the ascension of a new hierarch within the Protectorate, the emergence of the Retribution of Scyrah, an alliance between ancient enemies Khador and Cygnar, and the rebirth of colossals as the preeminent weapons of war. And we are just getting warmed up.
Next year is loaded with awesome for WARMACHINE with content that both looks back and builds upon the last ten years. No Quarter #46 kicks things off with a special article series that lets players experience critical battles within the meta story of WARMACHINE. The series covers six major battles, including the Khadoran invasion of Llael, the climactic showdown between Stryker and Hierarch Voyle in front of the walls of Caspia, and the fall of Point Bourne. Each scenario includes new fiction from the viewpoint of those who fought in these critical battles, special scenario models to represent specific characters and units, and scenario rules for reenacting these battles on the tabletop.
Our organized play league for 2013, Machinations, represents a new type of league experience, in which all four seasons are linked to form a continuous narrative. Players across the world will have a chance to work together to unlock the secrets hidden within Machinations through community game achievements.
Lock & Load GameFest will be bigger and better than ever next year, with two (yes, two!) levels of Privateer Press gaming, seminars, and specialty events. Trust me when I say this is an event no one will want to miss. If you can attend the preeminent Privateer Press event, you might get your hands on the newest evolution of the very first WARMACHINE model ever produced. Without giving too much away, I’ll just say this particular model represents the unstoppable momentum of the game over the last ten years.
As we announced last week, next year will also see the long-awaited release of novels set in the Iron Kingdoms. To kick things off, you’ll be able to read about the fall of Llael in the Iron Kingdoms Chronicles, but that’s just part of a bigger plan for a vast library of new fiction!
Of course, we have plenty more surprises in store for WARMACHINE waiting to be unleashed in the coming year. While all will be revealed in the next couple of month’s, I will tell you that by summer of next year there will be a whole new way to experience the continent-wide warfare raging across western Immoren.
While I shall remember you fondly 2012, I can’t wait for 2013!
