A few weeks ago Ed challenged me to a 150-point Unbound game of WARMACHINE. I took this as a challenge to myself to paint some new models for my Khador army. So with these two challenges in mind, I got to work painting, counting down to the day when my Khador force would face off against Ed’s Cryx army.

With so many points to play with, I wanted this matchup to be as epic as possible. So my list features four huge-based models: two Conquests and two Gun Carriages. Leading this heavy armor is Forward Kommander Sorscha, Vladimir Tzepesci the Dark Prince, and Orsus Zoktavir, the Butcher of Khardov. They bring along an assortment of heavy warjacks, including Beast-09, Drago, a Spriggan, and two Kodiaks. Because I’m a fan of heavy infantry, my list also features two full units of Man-O-War, Demo Corps and Shocktroopers. Rounding out the list are full units of Winter Guard Infantry and Kayazy Assassins and a pair of Widowmaker units. Since I already had a large painted Khador army, I didn’t have a ton of models to paint. Still, the prospect of painting a second Conquest and Gun Carriage along with a handful of warrior models in short order was a bit daunting.

After a few marathon-painting sessions, the day of reckoning has finally come. Here’s the army I will be playing against Ed.

I love painting as much as I love playing, so the evenings I put in getting this army ready were a joy. I still have a decent amount of detail work to do, but I’m satisfied enough with my models to consider them tabletop ready. Now the army will be tested in the field of battle for the first time. They say the dice roll more favorably for painted models, so I should be in good shape.

Soon, Ed and I will square off in a huge showdown for bragging rights. And make no mistake—despite Ed’s substantial losing streak in No Quarter battle reports, he is quite a formidable player. He can’t lose forever, right?

Next time, I’ll recap our game. Surely there will be a story worth telling from a game this epic!
