Since the videos I make typically involve revealing details about our products, explaining how to play them, or just showing them off, it’s necessary for me to be familiar with them. One way to research a game is to read the rules and ask other staffers to tell me about it, but I prefer to simply play it myself.
I had the opportunity to experience LEVEL 7 [ESCAPE] as a playtester. You might think playtesting is all fun and games (see what I did there?), but a quality playtest session requires focus, keen observation, and discipline, which is fun in a different way. Still, even in playtest, running for my life through alien-infested halls got my adrenaline pumping.
LEVEL 7 [ESCAPE] has an immersive environment of anxiety and terror that we tried to capture while creating the game overview video. For the onscreen text, we adopted a simplified version of the opening title credits that we originally created for Matt Wilson’s short film [WELCOME TO] LEVEL 7. We also had fun adding the creepy, ambient sound effects, and animating the game components and illustrations. I’m particularly fond of the blood splatters and accompanying screams!
Both the playtest experience and creating the video have me itching to get my hands on my own copy of LEVEL 7 [ESCAPE] so I can relive fleeing blindly down dark, subterranean hallways, frantically locking doors behind me, and leaving my fellow escapees alone to deal with the horrors headed their way.
You should watch the overview video as soon as possible, so when you suddenly wake up alone in an underground facility full of hostile aliens, you’ll know exactly what to do.
I suggest you run.
